I do all types of chair caning and chair seat weaving. The photos below show the most common types. In addition to these, I also do hand-twisted natural rush seats, Danish Cord, hickory bark, and prewoven (sheet) cane. Please email me for price schedule and more information.
7 Step Caning
The traditional caning, done on seats with holes drilled around the perimeter
If your chair has a groove routed around the cane rather than holes drilled, it is prewoven (sheet) cane
Shaker Tape Seats
This is done with sturdy cotton webbing in a wide choice of colors and weaving patterns
Rush Seat Weaving
This technique is done with fibre rush, a strong twisted paper product. I also do rush with natural hand-twisted bulrush and cattail. Inquire for more information.
Splint Seat Weaving
This is the type often seen on rustic ladder-back chairs, and uses rattan strips.
Binder Cane
This material is a wide type of cane, shiny and durable. It is often seen on porch rockers, and can be woven in several designs.
Hickory Bark
I use the inner bark of the hickory tree. It makes a beautiful, durable seat
